I see this post on tumblr all the time and alot of people are ‘liking’ it under the impression that because Hefner has spoken out against homophobia and doesn’t use the word ‘bitches’ that he is somehow respectful. Mind you that this is an incredibly low standard of acceptability. Someone is to be respected just for the fact that they aren’t verbally abusive? This is the same man who created a global franchise that has successfully influenced our standards of female beauty to mean “soft, playful, energetic, cuddly, mild mannered, like a little bunny”. Literally trying to display them as animals and popularizing iconography and props of poofy feathered tails and bunny ears. Just because you enjoy sex and don’t call women bitches doesn’t mean you dont treat women as commodifiable objects Hef. As Gloria Steinam tried to tell your ass, just because you’ve made women more available to men doesn’t mean you sexually liberated them.
