“Friendship… is not something you learn in school, but if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship you really haven’t learned anything.” —By Oscar Wilde (via sezonator)

“To give an accurate description of what has never occurred is not merely the proper occupation of the historian, but the inalienable privilege of any man of parts and culture. Still less do I desire to talk learnedly. Learned conversation is either the affectation of the ignorant or the profession of the mentally unemployed. And, as for what is called improving conversation, that is merely the foolish method by which the still more foolish philanthropist feebly tries to disarm the just rancour of the criminal classes. No: let me play to you some mad scarlet thing by Dvorak. The pallid figures on the tapestry are smiling at us, and the heavy eyelids of my bronze Narcissus are folded in sleep. Don’t let us discuss anything solemnly. I am but too conscious of the fact that we are born in an age when only the dull are treated seriously, and I live in terror of not being misunderstood. Don’t degrade me into the position of giving you useful information. Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. Through the parted curtains of the window I see the moon like a clipped piece of silver. Like gilded bees the stars cluster round her. The sky is a hard hollow sapphire.” —

The Critic As Artist: With Some Remarks Upon the Importance of Doing Nothing by Oscar Wilde

Sometimes, when the world is making you sour and everything seems unpalatable, only Oscar Wilde will do.

Drinking Liquids with Meals

coreytkelly:

If you have ever made a drink from powder or added water to a juice, you will have realized that the more water added the more diluted the drink becomes.  What you are left with is a juice flavored water.  The same applies for your digestive enzymes.  The more water you take in at a meal time the more diluted your enzymes become.  The more enzymes that are carried off by the water the less available to aid in digestion.  It is best to eliminate beverages 45 minutes prior to eating and 45 post meal.   This is one way to help strengthen digestion.  If this is not a current practice you have it is a great one to begin.

I try to limit my liquid intake before and after meals.

Whenever we go out to eat the server always finds it odd that I don’t order something to drink, and they always end up bringing me water. (which I only drink purified water..)

I remember reading a while ago how drinking fluids during digestion can hinder your digestive enzymes.

Whenever I tried explaining it to someone, they thought I was crazy, or wrong..

Chewing Your Food

coreytkelly:

Digestion is a topic of much importance, so it will be a topic I will be speaking about on going.  I recently went out to lunch with someone who, is a plant based, part raw champion of real food.  I actually paused eating myself to observe this machine that was building momentum before my eyes.  The machine could be more anatomically defined as a hand and mouth.  I am not one to exaggerate, so when I say they did not pause, I mean that they did not pause.  What is the benefit of eating such great, nutritious food if you are not going to absorb and digest its full benefits.  When eating it is best to put your fork or spoon down until you have finished chewing and finally swallow the food in your mouth.  There are many different opinions on how many times to chew but 30 or more times, from my understanding and experience, is recommended.  At the beginning count how many times you chew your food and bring awareness to the size and feel of the food. Notice if chewing your food 30 or more times feels foreign to you.  After you do this practice for some time you will no longer need to count how many times you chew.  Through practice you will develop awareness.  If we were meant to swallow food whole we would have a different digestive system and would be able to disarticulate our jaws like a snake.  Chewing your food is not only important to help with digestion and absorption but is also a great way to have a stronger connection and honor for the food  you eat.

“Folks, it’s time to evolve. That’s why we’re troubled. You know why our institutions are failing us, the church, the state, everything’s failing? It’s because, um – they’re no longer relevant. We’re supposed to keep evolving. Evolution did not end with us growing opposable thumbs. You do know that, right? There’s another 90 percent of our brains that we have to illuminate.” —Bill Hicks (via immanity)
